.edu.it domain
Italy’s social evolution also depends on your school’s website.
Why the edu.it domain?
Among more than seventy projects, this plan also includes a reorganization of the domain names used by central government agencies and educational institutions.
The need is to align with international standards and reserve the .gov.it domain exclusively for central government agencies, thereby reserving the .edu.it domain for public and private schools.
Key Information About the edu.it Domain

Replaces gov.it
Switching from gov.it to edu.it
Changing a website's domain name is a very delicate process and requires several technical steps.
When switching from the gov.it domain to the edu.it domain, web applications such as Joomla!, WordPress, or Moodle must be updated to use the new domain name, and email accounts must be transparently redirected to those on the edu.it domain without losing any messages.
All approximately 800 school websites that had a gov.it domain on Ergonet were successfully migrated and redirected to the new edu.it domains in less than six months after the launch of the edu.it domains.
